About
our Farm
Welcome! My husbnd, Steve, & I live in
Placerville, California which is half way between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe in the
foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We have 5 acres with a 6-stall pole barn, buck
barn, chicken coop, hog house and a seasonal pond and creek. We are still working on
fixing things up. We have added miles of fencing, a new well and now have water to our
pastures and barns along with electricity.
Along with the deer, racoons, squirrels, fox, skunks, opposum, mountain lions and
occasional bear that roam the area, we have many types of animals at our place. Some have
been 4-H projects that our children Ryan, Shane, Brennan and Kaylee have raised over the
years. Our main pride and joy are our Nigerian Dwarf goats. We started with a
couple about 5 years ago and now have 4 bucks and about 20 does. We are working hard at
developing a happy, healthy herd that can be raised for milk, show or pets. We have
started up the Annual Motherlode Mini-Milker Goat Show that takes place each May, as well
as the Annual Harvest Daze Goat Show that takes place each September here in Placerville.
We have many types of large laying chickens and bantams as well as some hogs, ducks,
geese, turkey, a rabbit, two Beagles and a Golden Retriever/Aussie Mix that adopted us a
couple of years ago. He is the supreme watch dog and sits atop the property keeping any
stray dogs, cats and jackrabbits off the place. We are now raising a couple of Angus
steers and emus.
